Darren Dalton

Operator II / Water Meter Reader – Collections & Distribution Department

Darren serves as a Water Meter Reader in Groveland Community Services District’s Collections & Distribution Department. While meter reading may happen behind the scenes, it is an important part of the District’s operations and plays a key role in accurate billing, customer service, and identifying potential water issues.

Darren is diligent about ensuring that meter readings are accurate each month. He works closely with the District’s Administrative staff to identify and communicate unusual meter reads so customers can be alerted to potential concerns. This level of attention and communication goes above and beyond what many water agencies provide on a monthly basis and helps customers identify possible leaks or unexpected water use before they become larger problems.

Darren also assists the Collections & Distribution crew with water and sewer line repairs and maintenance, as well as park maintenance. He enjoys working alongside the “crew” and especially likes being down in the hole during water line repairs, getting his hands dirty and working together to solve problems.

District staff considers Darren to be  one of the District’s many “detectives.” He particularly enjoys being called upon to track down leaks and determine what is causing them. There is a real sense of accomplishment when he finally figures out the problem. As Darren puts it, “When I figure it out, the dopamine feeling of accomplishment cannot get any better.”

One of Darren’s favorite things about serving the Groveland community is simple: “LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!” He enjoys living and working in the Groveland area and appreciates everything the community and surrounding area have to offer.

Outside of his work with GCSD, Darren is an active member of Tuolumne County Search and Rescue (SAR), where he contributes his time and skills to helping others in the community.
