Alternative Water Supply (AWS) Treatment Plant Relocation Project 

Project Description:

This project consistes of relocating the existing trailer-mounted alternative water supply water treatment plant equipment  from Pine Mountain Lake Association Maintenance Yard and reinstalled on new concrete foundations located at GCSD's property near the ballfield and dog park.  This relocated treatment plant will serve as a permanent location for the AWS plant, which will stand ready to provide safe drinking water to the entire GCSD water system during the 2025-26 Hetch Hetchy tunnel outage and future tunnel outages for inspection, maintenance and repair.

$3,230,000

Funding Source:

Urban and Multibenefit Drought Relief Grant Award: $8,545,000.00

Four part project includes: AWS Pipeline Relocation, AWS Treatment Plant Relocation, Hardrock Groundwater Well, and Tank & Pipeline Project.

Community Project Benefit: 

  • Permanent installation on GCSD property with room for further upgrades and expansion
  • Ensure reliable backup water when the Mountain Tunnel is offline

  • Add a 10,000-gallon Clearwell tank to improve the treatment process

  • Reconfigure chlorine treatment to improve safety and efficiency

  • Modernize pumps, electrical, and filtration systems
